WHAT IS THE LOUISVILLE HIGH SCHOOL UTR LEAGUE?

The Louisville High School UTR League is the most fun, flexible, and competitive league in Louisville for high school players of all skill levels. The league offers players a competitive experience that fits around their schedule. The league will guarantee players at least 4 matches per season, and is a great way to meet and play against players of similar skill level. The league is a great option for players with busy schedules or new to the area or game of tennis. The league will culminate with a Player Party for all participants and a free City Championship playoff for qualifying players.

We are excited to offer junior players in the city of Louisville the opportunity to play in this new league. The goal of this league is to allow the high school players an opportunity to continue to compete on-court year-round while giving them flexibility in their scheduling. We have also partnered with Universal Tennis Rating so that all league and tournament matches will count toward a player's UTR. This league is modeled after a pilot program that was highly successful at Atlanta's Universal Tennis Academy.

Why is UTR important?

The guiding principle behind the UTR system is that competition is the key to tennis player development, and the Universal Tennis Rating® (UTR) System provides that critical component by facilitating “level-based” match play.

Universal Tennis has clearly paved it's way to acceptance over the past few years starting at the collegiate level. They have partnered with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and incorporate all NCAA Tennis matches into their ratings. The results have also become "Hot" in college recruiting says Harvard Men's Tennis Dave Dave Fish. The new rating system is one of the first to move away from the "points per round" format commonly used for USTA rankings. The rating system focuses on providing a quantitative rating for players that is not dependent on division, age, or gender. UTR now offers a practical way for the approximately 345,000 players who play High School tennis in the U.S. to test their skills in level‐based rather than age‐based events

Stay tuned to our website for more information on UTR and how it can assist you whether your goal is to play competitive recreational tennis or compete at the collegiate level.
