FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Format:
The Louisville High School UTR Leagues are the most fun, flexible, and competitive leagues in Louisville for high school players of all skill levels. The league offers players a competitive experience that fits around their schedule. The league will guarantee players at least 3 matches per season, and is a great way to meet and play against players of similar skill level. The league is a great option for players with busy schedules or new to the area or game of tennis. The league will culminate with a free City Championship playoff for qualifying players.
How it Works:
At the beginning of the league season a divisional match schedule will be released. Each player will have opponents of similar skill (based on UTR) that they will be scheduled to play each week. Players will be scheduled for a number of matches with a bye week in the middle of the season. The bye week is placed in the schedule to provide some additional flexibility in scheduling matches that may not have been played prior to the bye week. The league administration will provide players with contact information for their opponents, then players are responsible for coordinating a convenient time and place to play each scheduled match. Matches can be played early or as late as the end of the following week to allow for scheduling problems (Ex. For week 1 match, you can play and submit the score by Sunday evening of Week 2; All matches must be completed by the final match play date). The winners (and possibly second place finisher) of each division will be invited to the City Championship. In the opening round of the City Championship players will once again be responsible for contacting their opponent and scheduling their match. The semi-final and final rounds of the City Championships will be held on a Saturday at a single site. All divisional standings will be based on total sets won and then sets lost to break a tie. This makes every match important towards a players' final ranking. Registration, standings, and contact lists will be managed online at louhstennis.blogspot.com.
Match Format:
All matches will be played using USTA rules, best of of 3 sets. The home player (as indicated on match schedule) will get the final say on location and is responsible for bringing the balls. The winning player is responsible for reporting the score to louhstennis@gmail.com.
When & Where to Play:
Players are responsible for checking the schedule and contacting opponents to set up a mutually convenient time and place to play. The home player gets the final choice on location if a place cannot be decided. If playing at a local club or facility that have court costs the home player will be responsible for these court costs. Matches can be played prior to, or up to one week after they are scheduled.
How do I submit a score?
The winning player for each match should email their score of their match to louhstennis@gmail.com within 24 hours of the completion of the match.
Why am I playing someone of the opposite gender?
Our league is based solely on the level of a players play and not on gender. We match players based on their skill level/rating (we use the Universal Tennis Rating system). Therefore you may play an opponent of the opposite sex, but your match should be competitive based on our system. This allows players to compete against opponents that they normally would NOT get the opportunity to play against.
Who can participate in the league?
Currently all league participants must have played high school tennis in the previous school year 2015-16 or plan to play high school tennis this school year 2016-17. League participants cannot be older than 18 years old at the time of league play. You do NOT have to be a USTA member to participate in this league.
How do I determine what level I play?
Most players will play in a group based on their current Universal Tennis Rating (UTR). If a player does not have a current UTR then they will have to self-rate based on the UTR Rating pyramid (click to view). All matches from league/tournament play will be entered into the Universal Tennis Rating system so that all players will have a UTR in the future.

Why is the home player responsible for court fees & balls?
The opponent has the cost of traveling to your facility and the home player is the one that is chooses where to host the match. We encourage everyone to host matches at local parks and or schools to avoid court costs. The home player will also be responsible for providing the balls for the match.
What happens if I am injured and have to default a match?
Please contact League Administration ASAP at louhstennis@gmail.com so we can contact your opponent. If possible you may be able to make up the match later in the league schedule. The flexibility of this league is one of the benefits.
How are no-shows handled?
If you and your opponent have set up a mutually agreed time/place to place and one player is a no-show for the match, the opponent will receive a default 6-0, 6-0 victory 15 minutes after the scheduled match time.
What happens if I am not available for the City Championship?
If you win your pool and are selected to play in the City Championship but are unavailable please notify the League Administration ASAP so we can find a replacement player. We highly encourage all players to keep their schedule open so they can participate in the City Championship if they are selected.
